If your child becomes ill at the nursery, every effort will be made to contact the parents to take them home. We have a sickness policy and one for administering medication at the nursery. We will be administering prescribed medication only, but we will also need written consent from parents/guardian. Written records are kept of all medicines administered to children, and parents will have to sign the record book to acknowledge entry. If the administration of prescription medicines requires technical / medical knowledge then individual training is provided for staff from a qualified health professional. Training will be specific to the individual child concerned (Standard 7.7). Children will not be allowed to return to the nursery, if suspected to be suffering from an infectious illness and the period of quarantine has not expired or if the child has anything contagious, for example measles, diarrhoea, chicken pox and others. A doctor's letter may be required to verify this. Please note that no child may attend nursery during the first twenty four hour period of taking the initial dose of antibiotics.
